Lucid dreaming is a powerful tool that everyone has at their disposal but few utilize it. Consider this: there are 24 hours in a day, we spend 7-9 (or we should) of them asleep. In our waking hours, there is little we can control and we often struggle to achieve what we desire. In our sleeping hours, anything can happen and if we could learn to control what happens we could unlock a whole world of potential. This is the power of lucid dreaming.
To be clear, lucid dreaming is basically being in a dream and being aware that you having that dream. Those who are particularly talented at lucid dreams have found that they can take control during the dream and dictate it any way they wish. If you have always wanted to be a professional soccer player and dream of scoring a goal for your country it is unlikely to happen in real life but in dream life, it is something every one of us could achieve.
Lucid dreaming is not new and many have known of its potential for many years. Aristotle is known to have referred to lucid dreaming while many religions also speak to its benefits.
That all sounds great but how can we start lucid dreaming? There are some hacks that can make it a little easier to try.
Have a dream diary
One of the toughest parts of lucid dreaming is that many people don’t remember their dreams. The easiest time to remember is when you have just woken up as you are still partly in that dream state. Have a diary beside your bed and immediately write down everything you remember. This will start to train your brain to remember the dream state.
Recognize a dream
If you are in a dream, how do you know you are dreaming. Things like time and physics won’t behave so normally but our brains are trained not to notice these things unless we look for them. Draw a small circle on your hand in waking life. During the day, every time you see this dot ask yourself the question “Am I dreaming?” You will quickly determine you are not and continue your day. However, this behavior will migrate to your sleeping life and when you look at the dot while asleep, you may notice a furry pink elephant and say, hold on a second, this isn’t right. Now you are lucid dreaming.
Best of luck with lucid dreaming. Enjoy the process and if you get there make sure you live every dream possible.
